It was a good day when Bill Rasmussen, PR man for the Hartford Whalers hockey team, lost his job. The year was nineteen seventy-eight, and now Bill took aim at his real passion: starting a statewide cable channel dedicated to local sports.
It was a better day when Bill’s friend and eventual business partner suggested he think bigger. Not local cable for local sports, but a national channel...for every sport. Today we know Bill’s passion as the worldwide network ESPN.
This is Howard Butt, Jr., of Laity Lodge with two observations about the out-of-work Mr. Rassmussen: One, he listened to his intuition. Two, he also listened to good advice. Who do you listen to?...in the high calling of our daily work.
